HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The Nanigo is a religious rhythm that originiated in Nigeria among the Yoruba people who were worshipping their orishas. The rhythm survived the African slaved trade.

Shango: Once the fourth king of the Yoruba, he was immortalized as the god of thunder. In Brazil, Shango is also worshipped as the god of thunder and weather by the Umbandists (EnyclopediaMythica).
